Healthy Eating:Top Tips
Here at ‘ddmag’ there’s nothing more we believe in than healthy eating; no matter who you are and what you do, eating right is the key to a long and happy life.
It can be easier said than done and with the new government advice of 5 a day; the idea of healthy eating can seem a little difficult in today’s busy world, which is why we at ‘Don’t Delay…’ have produced our own list of top tips that can help you on the way to a healthier lifestyle.
Top Tips:
- Preparation- If like the many people out there, you find yourself feeling peckish whilst at your desk than make sure you always have something healthy on hand; perhaps make sure a bag of fruit or nuts is always at your desk-that way, whenever you feel a rumble in your stomach, there will be something healthy on hand to keep you satisfied.
- Add a little- the idea of five a day can be quite daunting so why not try it in the simplest way. Have one piece of fruit alongside a meal or add an extra vegetable to your main dish-these little changes can make sure that you can keep on target with your five a day without getting bogged down
-
Switch- switching your everyday items with the healthier options is often the best and simplest way to change your diet. They don’t have to be big changes, perhaps try and do something small like switching your everyday snacks to bags of fruit and nuts, switching the fizzy pop to fruit smoothies and switching the bags of crisps to healthy crackers; trust us when we say that even the smallest change will make a big difference.
-
Making cuts- cut down on your daily intake of sugar and salt-it sounds simple enough but too much of this can lead to severe health problems. Cut down on the amount of biscuits you eat along with the amount of cheese, butter and cream. It can seem daunting but remember that attempting a healthier diet does not necessarily mean that you need to immediately stop eating all the foods you love-just try not to eat so much.
-
Making additions- Try something different in your everyday diet, staying in a routine of the same foods is never good in the long run. Why not try having fish at least once a week, having it in a salad or as a main meal can ensure that you get an essential dose of Omega 3-Great for the heart!
-
Checkups- In a busy lifestyle it can become extremely easy to get trapped in the quick fix lifestyle where you are left grabbing the nearest thing on the shelf but stop for a moment and check just what is that you are eating, what ingredients are used, is it the right kind of filling food? Knowing just what it is that you are eating can be the first step to control over your diet and once you have control, than making changes can become that much easier.
-
The poor substitute- No matter how busy you are, the most important rule in food is to never skip a meal and fill yourself with unnecessary food. When you are busy, it can seem as if the easiest option would be to grab a packet of crisp but when it comes to healthy eating; that is definitely a no! Always make time to eat and make time to eat the stuff that is right-neglecting your diet can have serious effects on your health.
