The Detox Diet
Over the past few years, the dieting fanatics out there have discovered a fast track to weight loss; the Detox Diet.
Popular amongst the celebrities and the ordinary people, the Detox Diet has fast risen to become the favourite method of attack amongst the masses; we at ‘ddmag’ wanted to take a deeper look into just what it is that makes the Detox so amazing, and most importantly; does it work?
The Detox diet is derived from the term ‘detoxification’, meaning to cleanse the body of any harmful and ‘toxic’ substances, creating a sense of purity and freeing the body from any problematic situations. The diet itself falls over a specific period of time, which often ranges from one week to a month and varies depending on the level of ‘cleansing’ you wish for. Doctors continuously warn that no Detox diet should be taken lightly as the danger level is immense, however despite the daunting warnings a Detox is actually a popular dieting style and viewed as a great quick fix favored by numerous celebrities, including Beyoncé.
The Detox is not your average diet involving small portions or cutting out specific meals, it in fact contains immense restrictions on just what can be eaten. Natural and raw foods are a yes when detoxing, which means that all the most common everyday foods and drinks are strictly banned; Detox diets are definitely not to be taken lightly.
Common Detox plans often restrict dieters to the following foods:
-
Raw fruits
-
Vegetables
-
Whole grains
-
Nuts and seeds
-
Fish
-
Herbs
-
Water
-
Herbal tea
With strict restrictions on the following foods:
-
Caffeine
-
Alcohol
-
Processed food
-
Bread
-
Canned food
-
Sugar
-
Fried foods
-
Cheese
With its strict restrictions and ‘quick fix’ promises, there are many out there who view the idea of a Detox as a hoax as there is in fact no hard hitting scientific evidence. However, there is a common view that we cause our own illnesses via the constant consumption of unhealthy fast foods, caffeine doses and alcohol and smoking; damaging our bodies, weakening them and leaving us vulnerable to a range of illnesses; a Detox can be a ‘spring clean’ to help rejuvenate and revitalise the state of our inner system.
The ranges of Detox diets that are being offered are extremely wide but they are all viewed as extremely difficult and should in no way be taken lightly however, what we at ‘Don’t Delay…’ have noticed is, that with an increasing number of people undertaking the highly restrictive diets, many are beginning to go that one step further and attempt ‘water fasts’.
Water fasts’ often occur over a period of three days and simply require the dieter to consume nothing but two liters of water but this is by far one of the most dangerous forms of dieting as it deprives the body of all the necessary nutrients it needs to survive. No matter how you believe the state of your body is in, it is vital that you do not deprive it of necessary nutrient-this is in no way the ‘quick fix’ that you should go for.
Popular Detox Diets:
-
Raw food Detox
-
Smoothies Detox
-
Fruit Detox
-
Liquid Detox
If you have decided to attempt any Detox diet than the best thing that you can do is to consult your doctor as it should only be attempted if you have great health; those with illnesses such as anemia, bone disorders, lung disease, diabetes, cancer or those who are pregnant, should in no way attempt any detoxification as it may lead to serious complications and a whole array of adverse affects.
Whatever you decide to do, we at ‘ddmag’ believe that if you eat right and exercise regularly than you’ll no doubt be on your way to a long, happy and healthy life!
