Jeff Dunham, April 2010 - Debut UK tour.

Following his sold out London show at HMV Hammersmith Apollo earlier this year, top US comedian & ventriloquist Jeff Dunham, and his troop of characters, are back in the UK for ‘their’ debut live tour.

Performing to sell out crowds, the entertainer from Texas is creating roars of laughter up and down the country.

Jeff Dunham is hailed as a ‘genuine entertainment phenomenon’.  Having created an unforgettable cast of comic characters including skeletal Achmed the dead terrorist, Dunham is fast becoming a household name on both sides of the pond.

The live show kicked off with Brian Haner Sr. Known to Jeff’s fans as Guitar Guy, he warmed up the audience with a song dedicated to Wolverhampton. And he soon had the audience on his side as he sang about the local football team and the ‘sights of the city’.

Singing comedy lyrics in a rock and roll style, Haner Sr sang his way through his life story, adding lines of familiar tunes to represent stages of his life and career.

The rock and roll star appeared throughout the show, even accompanying Achmed with a song, much to the amusement of the audience.

Despite being Jeff Dunham's first UK tour, his reputation certainly preceded him. The loyalty of the fans that had come to see him perform was truly apparent when the crowd shouted out Bubba J punch lines and couldn’t wait the short pause to hear Achmed’s famous catchphrase ‘Silence I kill you!’

And Dunham certainly has a reputation to be proud of.  Clips of Achmed have been viewed over 300 million times on You tube worldwide and his debut TV show, ‘The Jeff Dunham show’  was the highest rated season premiere ever on Comedy Central.

With his ability to make his audience laugh hysterically - at puppets - he can blame his characters for outrageous, politically incorrect and crude comments. Dunham uses this to get away with a lot of potentially offensive material.

Performing his act in the UK certainly made for some interesting moments. But despite having to explain a few jokes and commenting ‘somewhere in the world that joke kills’  the audience loved every minute of it none the less.

Even a technical hitch didn’t put off the professional. When Achemd’s skeletal frame got tangled up and then his arm fell off, Jeff blended it into the routine perfectly, creating more laughs from the audience with impromptu lines and sketches.

Dunham has created characters with personalities so real, and interacts with them so seamlessly, you expect them to jump of the chair and walk off stage themselves. He has the ability to bring the characters to life in a way that makes the audience forget they are simply puppets.

Each puppet has a personality which is created from so much more than what they say. Achmed’s eyebrows and facial expressions create a whole character making it truly difficult to remember there is really only one person on stage.

The show is a true credit to his skill as a creator, performer and an entertainer.

  • JEFF DUNHAM's debut DVD 'SPARK OF INSANITY' has sold over 30,000 copies in the UK & was the only comedy DVD to chart in the Top 20 in 2008.
